The CGS-NCR Michel Timmons Award is a Distinguished Service Award to recognize a CGS-NCR member for his/her longstanding exemplary service to the CGS-NCR and/or outstanding contributions to the national Capital region geotechnical community. The CGS-NCR Distinguished Service Award is named after late Michel Timmons in honour to his long-time dedication and contribution to the CGS-NCR. CGS-NCR can give more than one award each year. The award may not be issued in certain years if the Awards Selection Committee deems that there is no suitable candidate. The award is usually presented at the CGS-NCR annual banquet

Selection/nomination criteria

The nominee needs (i) to be a member of the Canadian Geotechnical Society - National Capital Region and (ii) has done significant volunteer work for CGS-NCR for at least 10 years or (iii) has provided outstanding service to the national capital region geotechnical community. The recipient is chosen by the CGS-NCR Award Selection Committee from nominations submitted by members for potential recipients whom they feel deserve such recognition. Current CGS-NCR Executive Members are also eligible for the award. A nominee cannot be a member of the CGS-NCR Awards Selection Committee.

Prize

Award winner will receive a framed award certificate, a CGS-NCR gift and 1-year free CGS-NCR membership. Recognition of this award will be disseminated through CGS-NCR e-communication platforms and other news sources.

Description

The CGS-NCR Appreciation Certificate is to recognize a CGS-NCR member for his/her significant service to the CGS-NCR. The Appreciation Certificate is usually presented at the CGS-NCR annual banquet. CGS-NCR can give more than one Appreciation Certificate each year. The honour may not be issued in certain years if the Award Selection Committee deems that there is no suitable candidate.

Nomination Process

Annual Call

An annual call for nominations will usually occur by April 30th. Nominations should be submitted by May 31st.

Nominations

The Chair of the CGS-NCR Award Selection Committee will prepare the call for nominations and list of the nominees.

Conflict of Interests

The Award Selection Committee includes the members of the CGS-NCR executive committee and at least an external member. Conflict of interests will be considered in the formation of the selection committee. A nominee cannot be a member of the CGS-NCR Award Selection Committee.

Decisions

Decisions will be made by the Award Selection Committee.

Michel Timmons

Throughout his long-time dedication and contribution to the CGS-NCR, Michel was a fundamental member of our community, serving as the treasurer for the CGS-NCR for many years. He is remembered as the “rock” of the Canadian Geotechnical Society - National Capital Region (formally called Ottawa Geotechnical Group). His persistent dedication, generosity, and sense of humour will continue to be remembered and cherished. Michel’s impact will continue to inspire the members of the national capital region geotechnical community for years to come, and the CGS-NCR is thankful to have had his dedication, friendship and guidance.
